Case study Suzano

The Company

Suzano Papel e Celulose is a Brazilian pulp and paper company founded in 1924 in Salvador.

It is the world’s largest producer of eucalyptus pulp and one of the 10 largest on the market, as well as being the world leader in the paper market, with around 60 brands. In 2019, Suzano employed approximately 35,000 employees. Suzano’s annual turnover in 2020 was approximately R $ 30.460 billion.

CUSTOMER NEEDS

In order to optimize the storage of the Mimmo product (Toilet Paper), a leading brand in the category, Suzano turned to Cassioli for the construction of a semi- automatic system, dedicated to the storage of pallets with finished products.

One of the customer’s main requests was to look for a solution that would take up little space and, above all, work side by side with employees, reducing the risks and the possibility of accidents. The new Suzano plant, the Cachoeiro de Itapemirim plant, was the one involved in this automation, one of the company’s seven industrial plants, located in the state of Espirito Santo, Brazil.

The Cassioli solution

The reduced spaces and the need for a solution that coexisted with the human operator led Cassioli to develop a semi- automatic system where it is possible to store high-density pallets. Cassioli has installed 4 iSat trolleys for semi-automatic storage where they can handle up to 4220 pallets.

Some technical specifications:

  • Pallet dimensions: 1750.0 x 1200.0 x 2350.0 mm;
  • Weight per pallet: 800 Kg;

To work with the special pallet length (1750.0 mm), special equipment had to be developed to meet this customer specification.
