Cassioli at the heart of the new terminal at Milan Bergamo Airport: security area inaugurated with FAST2CHECK technology

New 7,500 m² area opens with 14 Cassioli automated lanes: enhanced comfort, no need to remove liquids or electronics, and optimized flows for Italy’s third-largest airport.

On November 25th, the new security checkpoint area at Milan Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport was officially inaugurated. This project marks a fundamental milestone in the transformation of the airport—now Italy’s third-largest by passenger volume and a strategic hub in Europe. The airport is moving towards a modern “aerotropolis” model, integrating infrastructure and high-value-added technologies.

Within this important journey of innovation, Cassioli Airport Division played a key role by supplying the technologies needed to manage passenger growth and guarantee the highest security standards.

The new security area: space and technology
The new security area, located on the first floor of the terminal, covers a surface area of 7,500 m² and is accessed via 9 automatic boarding pass reading gates. The beating heart of the infrastructure consists of 14 new security lanes, equipped with Cassioli’s FAST2CHECK automated solutions.

Designed to support high throughput, the system allows for the complete automation of the screening process with intelligent tray return, drastically reducing manual handling and ensuring a steady flow even during peak times.

Thanks to the integration of Cassioli lanes with next-generation X-ray systems by Smiths Detection, the passenger travel experience is radically changed through faster and more streamlined checks. The new procedures allow passengers to keep liquids (up to 2 liters per container) and electronic devices (PCs, tablets) inside their carry-on luggage, without the need to remove them.

This technological evolution significantly reduces waiting times and increases flow regularity. Furthermore, great attention was paid to accessibility in the layout design: the first lane is dedicated exclusively to Passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM), families with children, and Fast-Track users.

This installation is part of the investment program promoted by SACBO to respond to growing passenger traffic and strengthen Bergamo’s role in the Mediterranean network.

This inauguration confirms Cassioli’s mission: to support airports and operators in their digital and customer-oriented transformation by integrating reliable, scalable solutions capable of concretely improving the travel experience.
With the new terminal at Bergamo, Italian innovation by Cassioli continues to support the modernization of the airports of the future, combining operational efficiency with passenger comfort.
